Some animals are extremely strong, quick, big and attractive, but there are also animals who just seem to have real superpowers.
You think I’m kidding, right? But NO! In fact, here are the 10 animals you won’t dare to belittle.
1. The shapeshifting sea cucumber
Sea cucumbers have a lot of defense mechanisms for when they are threatened. Some of them shoot sticky threads, others their vital organs (which quickly regenerate), but most amazingly is that their can almost liquefy their bodies so they are able to shapeshift themselves into very small cracks or holes.
2. The Platypus
It looks like a cute mix of an otter and a duck, and loves to cuddle in captivity. But watch out, the Platypus has (non lethal, but very painful) poisonous spurs on his feet. But that’s not considered a superpower, that would be his ability of electrolocation, which means he is able to locate other animals based on electric currents in their muscles.
3. The Electric Eel
This type of eel can grow up to 7 ft (2.1 m) long, and it has a shocking power, 600 volts to be exact. The charge it can emits is -luckily- too short for humans to die from it, but it can cause heart fibrillation which can be quite dangerous.
4. The Mimic Octopus
5. The Axolotl
This -hard to pronounce- friendly looking amphibian is also called the “Frankenstein Salamander” for its ability to loose and regenerate not only it’s tail or limbs, but every part of its body! This includes organs such as the head and brain, without showing any scar tissue.
To make it even more special, it’s able to adopt limbs from other axolotl, and use it as his own.. Including the head and brain!
6. The Mantis Shrimp
7. The Alpine Ibex Mountain Goat
8. The Immortal Jellyfish
We’ve mentioned him before, but this amazing jellyfish specie called “Turritopsis nutricula” has the ability to implode himself to a polyp stage when it reaches the end of his life, making it practically immortal!
9. The Hairy Frog
Also known as the Horror Frog, this hairy fella would scare the hell out of me. The “hair” on the sides of his body are actually gills, full or arteries. Add to that his retractable claws, and you’ve got the most terrifying frog right there!
10. The Pistol Shrimp
Do all shrimps seem to have superpowers? No. But this one definently does.. It doesn’t deal a hard punch, but it has immense power in the snapping motion of his claws. It can close its claw so fast it makes the water around it boil and creates a soundwave of up to 218 decibel.
