Rolene Strauss representing SOUTH AFRICA has been crowned as the 64th Miss World, ousted 121 contestants at this year’s final in London!
The 64th edition of the Miss World pageant was held on December 14, 2014 at ExCel London ICC Auditorium where more than one billion people tuned into the live event. This year’s event was presented by Tim Vincent and Megan Young, the first reigning Miss World to ever host her own final show. Other than that, this is also the first time that the event was streamed to mobile devices, tablets and game consoles via the official Miss World app and YouTube.
The gorgeous 22 year old, senior medical student from sunny South Africa clasped her hands together in surprise as she was crowned as Miss World 2014 by the outgoing Miss World, Megan Young of the Philippines, before a fireworks finale. She told AFP she wanted to help spread education in her homeland and thereby help other people realize their dreams. This is the second time that South Africa has won the title outright and the third time they have held the title.
I am what I am today because of the opportunities I have received and I would love to give others the same opportunities; educating, the opportunity to be educated, to make healthy choices and also to live their dreams.”
Strauss said in her Miss World 2014 Introduction Video that, when she won the title of Miss South Africa in March she will then use her position to follow her “passion for women’s rights, health and education” and would highlight her work in educating girls about menstruation to keep them in school. Strauss hopes to go to business school, become a doctor and start a business focusing on women’s health.
