Children are angels. They are beautiful blessings from up above. Taking care of them is one of our elders’ job. However, recently, an incident in Nanjing, Eastern China had happened that two young children were rescued from being locked up on a cage with dogs.
As China Radio International (CRI) reported, a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl were sometimes eating leftover food from a local market and drinking water from a nearby river. They slept in a broken van at night.
Their grandfather, Yu Congqiu, said that he locked his grandchildren with the dogs due to safety concerns. He said he earned a measly wage by running his unauthorized dog kennel. It was not enough to raise the two grandchildren. Sadly, the two kids and their grandfather are struggling to make ends meet and live on a shed near a dog cage.
Due to some protest, the local authorities have placed the siblings into a temporary home until the family can find better accommodation for the children.
The siblings were also taken to a hospital for a check-up, which confirmed that both children were healthy. According to reports, the local authorities are working to find a longer term solution for the children’s care.
Other than that, an organisation also contacted local dog lovers to purchase the dogs from the kennel, raising 50,000 yuan (USD 8,052) for the grandfather.
