Woman’s Headaches Caused By Tapeworm Buried In Her Brain

What started as headaches turned out to be something much worse for this mom from Texas.

Woman's Headaches Caused By Tapeworm Buried In Her BrainA woman who had been suffering from severe headaches and blurry vision was horrified when she found out that the cause – numerous tapeworm larvae sacs growing in her brain.

Yadira Rostro first started to notice bad headaches nine months ago and finally sought medical help after they continued to get worse. Doctors then made the gruesome discovery and operated to remove the parasites from her brain.

I started having headaches several times. Sometimes my sight was impaired and I could not see properly. I never imagined I would have something in my head,” said Rostro.

Doctors revealed that the 31-year-old Yadira Rostro had sacs of larvae living inside her brain, which they believe that Rostro got on a trip to Mexico two years ago.

As the eight tapeworm eggs that had nestled themselves inside her brain developed, fluid slowly built up which caused her to experience terrible bouts of headaches.According to neurosurgeon, Dr Richard Meyrat,

They look a bit like eggs and have a clear sac. Inside of it is a small tapeworm.”

He added that it was likely Rostro picked up the parasite after ingesting faecal-contaminated food or water that got into her bloodstream and then her brain. Rather disturbingly, doctors took a footage of the extraction of the larvae from Rostro’s brain, which can be seen in the video below.
